Congratulations to Girls Football Team

Big congratulations to the Girls Football Team, trained by SFX Business Studies Tutor and Girls Football Coach Thressa McConnell, who played in a tournament last Wednesday and came out victorious at the end of a thrilling final. The four teams involved came from SFX, St Charles in Ladbroke Grove, Southfields Community College and the Priory School. Through the girls’ great team work and support they came out the winners of all games. In the final the girls came back from being 1-0 down to win 2-1. This was just reward for the girls’ commitment they have given all year. The team involved included: Jade Keogh (captain) Keisha Small, Kizzanna Fergus, Sarah Bakare, Elizabeth Adejorin Johnson, Abigail Asante, Amina Farah, Adebimpe Adeyemo.

No Substitute for a good read at SFX
SFX’s Learning Resources centre Manager Jo Barber has no fear of the digital age as she manages the college’s virtual learning environment SFX Moodle – the unique facility which provides the college’s 1350 university hopefuls with exclusive online resources they can access 24/7 On the subject of reading she remains fiercely traditional and seeks every opportunity to promote good reading habits amongst SFX students. Already this year she organised a reading competition aimed specifically at Science students, and at the start of the Spring term SFX students were issued with the Five Book Challenge – a chance to win a supply of book vouchers for reading 5 books and completing diary entries for each book.
Winner of this year’s Five Book Challenge is aspiring architect and SFX students, Maria Mensah (ex- Norwood School) who exceeded all expectations by reading 30 books and completing 6 Five Book Challenge diaries. “I’ve always liked reading classics” commented Maria “but the Five Book Challenge gave me the opportunity to investigate different genres and this has now made me more adventurous in my reading.”
