This course offers a wide range of topics on culture, education, politics, social and environmental issues focused on the nine Portuguese-speaking countries. In the first year students will be prepared to sit the AS exam at the end of the year and in the second year students will be prepared to sit the A2 exam. Both AS and A2 grades are part of the final grade.
Languages can be combined with any other subject to add an international dimension to your studies and your future career. The rest of the world most definitely does not “always speak English”. At university, the ERASMUS programme allows you to study for a year abroad at a European university – whatever the subject of your main course. Few UK students can do this, because they usually do not have the language skills; with an A level in a language, you will be in a much stronger position to study art in Italy or politics in Spain or law in France. Career options include: Interpreting, Translating, Teaching, Tourism, Journalism, Marketing, International Business.
In addition to the Programme Entry Requirements:
Grade 5 in Portuguese
*Native speakers of any of the languages that we offer (Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese) with no GCSE qualification, can still join the course provided their competence in the language is tested and discussed with the subject teacher and the head of Department.
