Law

A level and Applied

Law

Course type: A level
Awarding/exam body: OCR

Do you want to know the difference between criminal law and tort law?

Are you fascinated by the intersection of law and moral values?

If so, you might like to consider A level Law. It’s a challenging, dynamic and insightful subject, highly valued by employers and universities alike. You’ll learn all about the English legal system, how laws are made, the key areas of criminal law and tort (civil) law, as well as how law achieves justice, and impacts society, morality and technology.

The law is highly complex, and this A level addresses real-life situations to make sense of it. It explains how it governs our behaviours and the ways we interact with institutions and each other. You’ll learn how to analyse situations and apply legal rules and principles to make sense of the world.

Component 1: The Legal System and Criminal Law

Component 2: Law Making and the Law of Tort

Component 3: The Nature of Law and Human Rights

100% examination at the end of two years.

A level Law is an academic subject and combines well with several other subjects including History, Politics and English, Business and Accountancy. A level Law will open the door into higher education courses that need skills in evaluation and analysis.

After completion of the A level you can go on to higher education to do a degree in law or a related subject, or an apprenticeship in law or a law-related field.

Careers in law are many and varied, and include solicitor, barrister, arbitrator, coroner, judge, law lecturer, legal secretary, licensed conveyancer.

What Our
Students Say

The support I received from passionate teachers who pushed me to aim higher, to the tailored guidance with university applications made all the difference. SFX believed in my potential even when I doubted myself, and that encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue my ambitions. Without that foundation, I don’t think I’d be on the path to a legal career today.
