Performing & Production Arts

Course type: BTEC/UAL Level 3 Extended Diplomas • Awarding/exam body: University of the Arts London (UAL)
Equivalent to 3 A levels.

This course encompasses a very wide range of opportunities and will be tailored to fit the requirements of the students who enrol. Students on the UAL Performing & Production Arts course will work in our professional standard performance and rehearsal spaces including the Music Recording Studio and Dance Studio.

In the first year of the course you will develop your performance techniques across the art forms through participation in music, acting and dance workshops and share your work with live audiences. You will also develop your production skills by taking responsibility for a backstage role such as costume designer or sound technician. In the second year you will participate in two productions including a full-scale musical. You will experience live theatre, music and dance performances in professional venues.

YEAR 2
Unit 09: Developing Performance and Production Skills
Unit 10: Preparing for Progression
Unit 11: Exploration of Specialist Study and Context and Units 12 or 13, Extended Projects on a subject of your choice.
Unit 12: ( level 3) or Unit 13 ( level 4 )

Course Assessment

You will be assessed on your practical performances in productions performed to a live audience and through your reflection on this work in the form of log books and journals.

This Course Can Lead To…

A wide variety of careers in the theatre world including working as an Actor, Musician, Dancer amongst many more. There are also opportunities to progress to university and Drama/Dance School or to study Music at a Conservatoire.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above ideally including English Language at grade 4 or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit with English Language at grade 4.

In addition/ within those 5 GCSEs, for this subject you will need to achieve Grade 4 in English language or English Literature and Grade 4 in GCSE Music, Dance, Drama or Expressive Arts
OR
Grade 4 in English language or English Literature and Pass in BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts
OR
Grade 4 in English language or English Literature and appropriate experience in music, dance or drama performance (discussion with Head of Department required)
