This week a group of SFX humanities students attended the photography and audio exhibition “No place like home”, by photographer Jonathan Donovan. The exhibition showcased people who live in London from all ends of the social spectrum in their ‘homes’ – some were living in subways or squatting in houses in Holland Park, others living in Mansions in Kensington or grand houses in Wandsworth. The images were accompanied by an audio story of the individuals experience of living in London, and asks what constitutes a home in this febrile environment.
The trip was also the first outing for the new Networking Society, a society open to all students that encourages meetings and discussions with industry professionals through trips and visiting speakers.
The exhibition allowed the students to explore current issues through a more unusual form of media. They also had the exciting opportunity to meet with the photographer to discuss the exhibition. One of the students was inspired to start up a Photography society within college, with the Photographer Jonathan Donovan agreeing hold a workshop for the new society.
