Introduction:
You will be introduced to the language of the moving image and learn how to analyse its component codes. In particular you will study mainstream Hollywood productions and films of the UK and Irish industries. A stimulating opportunity to turn a pleasure into some profitable study that gets to grips with how film makes meaning, and to refine your knowledge of this distinctively 20thC art-form as it moves into the 21st century. The A2 course extends your knowledge of film by exploring some more complex aspects of film theory relating to auteurism, genre and the concept of the star. It will embrace world cinema too and confront key debates about spectatorship, technology and critical distinctions such as ‘popular’ and ‘art’ cinema. You will also write a screenplay and take part in a film production.

Specific Course Entry Requirements: In addition to the Minimum Entry Requirements you will need a grade B in GCSE English Language.
Additional Information: GCSE Media or Art is desirable and a passion for film essential.
