IT Facilities at SFX

The College provides a computer network which supports computers in every classroom and study area. The network is connected to the Internet 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The college is part of the network known as JANET, the network dedicated to the needs of education and research in the UK. It connects the UK’s education and research organisations to each other.
Students can store their coursework on the network and access their computer areas from any student computer. Each student is given a personal logon identity based on his or her surname. The network supports laser printers, colour laser printers, scanners.
Specialist equipment such as digital video editing and data logging is available within relevant departments.
The Virtual Learning Environment can be seen at http://online.sfx.ac.uk.

The student diary contains a copy of the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) with guidelines on how the IT facilities are expected to be used. This policy also forms part of the Student Code of Conduct, which both students and parents are asked to sign during enrolment.
Students have access to a large software library; Microsoft Office products are standard throughout the college, but specialist software is available in subject areas.
