Alexandre came to SFX from John Paul II School. He chose SFX particularly because of the Language options.
Now at SFX studying Italian, Maths, English, Media Studies and Environmental Science, Alex plans to learn more languages, progress to university and pursue a career as a translator.
He advises year 11 students: “Not to mess about – GCSEs really are your last chance to progress in life – they are a big point in your life and really affect what you can do in the future. In the end it’s you who has to make the difference.”
Nina (ex-Norwood Girls School) achieved top grades here at SFX for her A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths and is enjoying her gap year working in the SFX Learning Resources Centre before taking up her place at New Hall, Cambridge, where she will study for a degree in Medicine.
Nina says: “To see SFX at the top of the college league table clearly influenced my choice and when I visited SFX I knew instinctively it was for me.”
She plans to work in a hospital, possibly in surgery, and advises future students to “work hard – it’ll pay off and your GCSE results really will make all the difference.”
Carla (left in the picture) came to SFX from La Retraite High School and was at SFX for 3 years studying Travel and Tourism BTEC. “When I first came to SFX I didn’t even know about Travel and Tourism”, she comments, “and I learnt so much and really grew up at SFX.” Carla is now at the University of Brighton studying Travel Management and plans eventually to live abroad in Italy and work at check-in at an airport.
Madelein came from Bishop Thomas Grant School. She also took the BTEC National in Travel and Tourism and has progressed onto a course in beauty therapy. She also completed the BTEC in Travel and Tourism and intends to make her career in film/TV. In her gap year before going to the London University of the Arts Madeleine is taking an NVQ in Beauty Therapy at the London College of Beauty Therapy.
Joshua came to SFX from Dulwich College and spent his first year studying AS Levels before changing to a BTEC National Diploma in Sports Science.
He had always been keen on sport, both as an accomplished sportsman himself and from the theory side, and so the course was an ideal match for his interests.
He has now progressed to Roehampton University to study for a degree in Sports Science. Possible future plans include postgraduate courses in Sports Journalism or Sports Television.
Josh (very humble!) advises: “I had all the advice in the world and all the opportunities too – my advice is to do what you enjoy and not necessarily what is seen to be the right thing to do!”
