SFX A level results confirm "outstanding" status
The 2009 A level results at St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College have confirmed the May OFSTED findings that SFX is an outstanding college. With a massive 99.4% pass rate behind them, up .3% on last year, the vast majority of SFX students will be off to study at the university of their choice despite public fears that this year's uni places will be in shorter supply.
Top A/B grades rose by nearly 5 points to 51%, with a record 20 students scoring straight As, and 34 of the college's 37 teaching departments scoring 100% pass rates.
From the straight A students, Gloria Ackah (ex-St Martin's in the Fields High School), will be moving on to study Economics and Mathematics at Royal Holloway College , London University. Isaac Jonas (ex-Dunraven School) is off to Southampton University to study Mechanical Engineering, Maria Oreyelu (ex-Sacred Heart School, Camberwell will be going to Warwick University to study Politics and Sociology, Ezme Bushell (ex-Sydenham Girls School) will be studying Social Anthropology at the London University School of Oriental and African Studies and Charlie Osas Aghatise (ex-Bishop Thomas Grant School, Streatham) will move on to Manchester University to study Law.
BTEC National/DCE results also had a top year with 100% pass rates in Information Technology, Media Production, Sport and Exercise Science and the Diploma in Child Care and Education.
St Francis Xavier Principal Bernie Borland,CBE, who is to step down this year after 15 years as Principal, commented "I am very proud that in my retirement year the students and staff at SFX have faced up to the challenge of A levels in this magnificent way. I look forward to hearing great things about these young people from South London who have been such a credit to their parents and teachers".
